Nurse Practitioner

We are seeking a contracted agency to provide nurse practitioner services. Contracted agencies must provide proof of liability insurance.

Job Purpose
Contract will cover one FTE nurse practitioner to perform medical evaluations for infants and children to age 17 who are suspected to be victims of child maltreatment. The examinations are performed at The Dee Norton Lowcountry Children's Center (DBA Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center). Serves as an educational resource to other health care providers and to the community with regards to child abuse and neglect. Participates in the supervision and training of other health care professionals for the assessment and management of cases of suspected child abuse and neglect. Responsible for coordination at the Nurse Practitioner level of the various aspects of infants and children who are known to be or suspected to be victims of child abuse and/or neglect. These functions include direct provision of medical care to these patients and families, ongoing assessment of the effectiveness and quality of care provided to this patient population and cooperation with research involving this patient population.

Education and Work Experience
General supervision. The employee is expected to carry forth the responsibilities with minimum supervision, while exercising sound judgment, discretion, initiative and demonstrating a positive and professional image. Functions clinically as a Family Nurse Practitioner as an independent clinician but with supervision and peer review by a physician.
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with two years clinical experience, one of which must have been in the specialty area of care. Special training in the evaluation and management of abused and neglected children and adolescents. Advance practice pediatric nursing and knowledge and several years nursing experiences in Pediatrics. Positions in the classification require licensure as a Registered Nurse and as a Nurse Practitioner by the South Carolina Board of Nursing, as well as certification through the appropriate certifying board. Requires certification in Basic Life Support.

Physical Requirements
Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs. (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs. of force, lift from 36” to overhead 25 lbs. infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.

Job Duties
Effectively present the medical conclusions and recommendations at multidisciplinary team meetings for The Dee Norton Lowcountry Children's Center.
Provide direct medical service to children who are referred due to concern of abuse and neglect. –
Provide nursing follow up case coordination as needed on cases.
Show initiative in meeting standards as regards trainings required by SCCAMRS, and Board of Nursing per VOCA grant.
Staff all cases with attending physicians and give signed reports to department Administrative Assistants in a timely manner (time to not exceed 14 calendar days).
Take call on nights and weekends for acute sexual abuse/assault cases.
